David Attenborough

For Red Bull Monday June 1st upstairs 942

When I lived in France my house was situated in the middle of the fields of a dairy farm. From my conservatory window I frequently watched calves being born. They were surrounded by three or four other cows like midwives. The calf was quickly tagged and disappeared within a couple of weeks leaving a grieving mother crying day and night for over a week.

David Attenborough said that if we were all vegans there would be enough land for us to grow enough food for everyone. I added and to build houses? I became a vegan about 30 years ago when I learned this fact because raising animals for meat takes so much land. 7To10 acres for one beast. Land which could be used for vegetables. Also to feed these beasts we have to import feed from other countries who would be better off growing food to feed themselves.

I haven't mentioned animal cruelty. I am saddened by the way humans treat animals. How do you feel when you see a lorry full of small cages filled with pigs, poultry, sheep and goats. Or they could be ducks, geese, swans, pheasants, partridge, quail, chickens, turkeys and guinea fowl.

These animals are live and travel for god knows how many hours without food or water.

I do not eat eggs because true free range is no where to be found. I have recently stopped scrolling on Facebook because I have night mares after seeing images of the way humans treat animals Cows, pigs, hens, sheep all are tortured. Don't even mention fois gras.

I am ashamed to be a member of the human race.

Chris Packham

I have always admired Chris Packham since I read his book 'Fingers in the Sparkle Jar. This week I watched Spring Watch. Now I am really saddened again not about human cruelty to animals but about animal behaviour. We watched three chicks hatching out of their eggs. The first to hatch was bigger than the other two and attacks the other two and eats more. The smallest gets the least and eventually dies. Next , incredibly the parent bird shares it body between herself and the other two chicks. Cannibals in the bird kingdom. I stopped eating tuna when I read on the label that it was from the Pacific Ocean, a well known dumping ground for nuclear waste. I went to a fish market and saw lobsters and crabs with their claws tied together lying on a bed of ice. They were still alive presumably so that they could be sold as fresh.

My doctor is a pescatarian. I asked him if he knew where the fish he was eating came from. His answer was vague.

I do eat vegetables, fruit, nuts, pulses, e,g, lentils, butter beans, chick peas etc.

Now the worry here is the use of pesticides for myself and even more so for the bees. How stupid is the human race that it will risk the extinction of bees and therefore us. The use of pesticides not only kills bees but other useful insects and beautiful ones too. How would we feel if there were no more butterflies.

W W N F I P

In 1983 I was a member of a group called 'Women Working for a Nuclear Free and Independent Pacific

In March of 1987 a group of women came from the islands of the Pacific. I use to ask people if they knew how many countries there were in Africa. Now it would be more interesting to ask people if they knew how many islands there are in the Pacific Ocean. I was looking at this map yesterday when I noticed for the first time, the title of the map. Nuclear Colonisation in the Pacific.

Read list from the corner of the map.

So 9 women came from 9 different islands and told us the truth colonisation.

Bikini Island- A US official told the chief of the island that what they were doing was for the good of humanity The islanders could not speak English or even read their own language. I think it is safe to say that they were hood winked into believing this lie. He told them that testing these bombs would stop all war. The islanders were moved to an island which could not support their need for food and water. They were  moved from island to island while their homeland became contaminated and remains so till this day.

I tried to read more but it was too painful and I couldn't stop crying.

I did in the 80's have a slide show which I show to visit anti-nuclear groups to spread the word, to tell people what these women had told us.

The islands that were contaminated will remain so for ever.

Sir David Attenborough directly addressed the history and devastating impacts of nuclear testing in the Pacific in his documentary series.

David Attenborough talks about a beautiful world full of amazing wild life, animals and birds, insects and fish. Unfortunately it is too late to save most of these islands.

This morning I researched the world wide effects of these tests.

Apparently there are 2 million additional cancer deaths worldwide

I haven't mentioned plastic have I?

I suppose that we have all become aware of the danger of the use of plastic since David's programme. How are manufacturers still making everyday items in plastic. I found out last week that tea bags, yes tea bags contain plastic.

Unfortunately the only thing left for us to do is to prevent the use of pesticide and plastic.

We need to be planting trees not cutting them down.

I planted 200 trees in France in my garden.
