Philosophy

I have always been interested in philosophy.  I am a humanist  and have studied Buddhism. This morning I read again a piece about Epicurus.
I am often surprised by the writings of people in the past. I frequently agree with what seem to me sensible  and useful ideas. What I can't understand is why modern day thinkers rulers appear to ignore what seem to be incredible truths.
Is it just me or  are so many 'christians ' hypocritical.

Epicureanism
is a system of philosophy based on the teachings of Epicurus, founded around 307 B.C. It teaches that the greatest good is to seek modest pleasures in order to attain a state of tranquillity, freedom from fear ("ataraxia") and absence from bodily pain ("aponia").
